Learn About Our Soap Ingredients

Natural soaps are real soaps that are made from plant-derived oils. Commercial soaps are detergents that have few benefits to our skin. They are filled with lathering agents that are usually petroleum-based that actually dry our skin!

Because we believe in natural solutions, we launched a page on our website explaining the benefits of natural oils to our skin.

At Sunshine & K Handmade Soaps, our Artisan Collection Soaps contain seven natural ingredients:

  1. Extra virgin olive oil
  2. Rice bran oil
  3. Coconut oil
  4. Sustainable palm oil
  5. Sustainable palm kernel flakes
  6. Castor oil
  7. Beeswax

We use coconut oil at the recommended ratio to accommodate people with sensitive skin. We use various colorants in our soaps: Mica colors, color pigments, and plants (vegetables/roots) powders.

Mica is a natural product that is mined from the earth. To be used in soap products, mica must be colored with an additive that is approved by the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Oxides and pigments (the terms are used interchangeably) traditionally are natural colorants mined directly from the earth. These mineral colorants are derived from iron oxidation, with different colors coming from different oxidation states. However, materials mined from the earth tend to contain heavy metals like lead and arsenic. Therefore, according to the U.S Federal Regulations, natural iron oxides that have not been purified to strict safety standards cannot be used as color additives in the U.S. Because of this, most oxides and pigments available today are produced in labs. They are nature-identical.

Our soaps will nourish your skin and they will last longer without the use of additives, lathering agents, or harsh chemicals.
